artist statement

My work explores topics of the human experience and seeking depth through various processes, mediums, and materials. I am drawn to themes of vulnerability, growth, and hope, and wish to explore conversations about these topics with my audiences. My most recent oil painting series, The Nothing Never Was, studies ephemerality and memory through curated still lives in an attempt to understand why I am so afraid of losing what once was. I compose with my familiar objects that string together moments throughout my life.

I often find myself as the protagonist, contemplating suddenly weightless objects around me as a hopeful goose or considering a small trinket in hand as a porcelain doll. This process of care and assembly, akin to child’s play, allows me to confront my fear of losing these moments while finding wonder in their preservation. Through this work I am striving to keep these memories in a fantastical realm, freeing them of time and stillness.

about the artist

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kenny (she/her) is a painter and illustrator with a passion for creating works that tell stories and has recently drawn inspiration from the fairytales that she was raised with. Kenny has recently gravitated towards oil paint and employing careful detail in her works, often depicting imagined characters and bright colors. She recently received her BFA in Fine Arts at UC’s DAAP and is excited to begin her journey as an emerging artist in Cincy. She currently works as a part-time muralist with ArtWorks, designing and executing original works throughout the city. She also works for Plaza Artist Materials, helping other local artists find the perfect tools for their own projects. Outside of work, Kenny enjoys watching movies, crocheting, and spending time with friends and family.
